January 2020 In Retrospect

2.14.2020

We're already in the middle of February and I only posted my first post of 2020 now. Happy New Year everyone! One of my 2020 goals is to blog more and although I didn't post anything in January, hey, it's still early 2020, I still have chances to fulfil that goal!

I only read 2 books in January...

Prince Charming An Awkward Love Story

  • Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins
  • A Totally Awkward Love Story by Tom Ellen and Lucy Ivison
January is actually my study break month but sadly, I only got to read 2 books. For the first two weeks of my study break, I wasn't really in the mood to read anything, I literally just slept. December had been a month of no sleep for me and my lack of sleeping during that time was covered by two weeks of long sleep. The two books I read in January were read during my study session and my mind was so packed with study facts. Out of the two books, my favourite read of the month was totally Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins. I really needed that light and fun story during the time I was reading it. I really enjoyed reading it; the characters were loveable, hilariously sarcastic, this book had a cute romance, handsome princes and it was an uncomplicated story. I loved it.

Although I only read 2 books in January, there were 4 books that I read that month but I still haven't finished and am still currently reading. I finished Six of Crows on February 4th and there will be a review soon.

Books I'm currently reading...

How To Stop Feeling Like Shit A Thousand Splendid Suns Freshmen

  • How To Stop Feeling Like Sh*t by Andrea Owen
  • A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (reread)
  • Freshmen by Tom Ellen and Lucy Ivison

TV shows I've watched in January

  • Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 3
  • The End of The Fxxking World Season 2
  • Sex Education Season 2
  • Victorious Season 1
  • The Marvelous Mrs Maisel Season 1 & 2
  • Where Stars Land
  • My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is now one of my favourite TV shows. It was hilarious, stereotype-breaking and I love that it sets in the late '50s. It is written by the writer of Gilmore Girls, which is a show I'm also currently watching and really loving. I really love seeing Midge, the main character, starting from scratch as a comic during an era where women are silenced and despite being intelligent, resilient, intuitive and strong, a woman is not allowed to let her voice heard as easily and as agreeably as a man. In this show, Midge used stand-up comedy to say the things all women around her didn't have a chance to say. I'm actually new to stand-up comedy, I know it was a thing but I thought it was just people on stage performing useless jokes. I was totally wrong.

I never got to watch Victorious as a child and watching it was totally out of whim and my curiosity towards Ariana Grande's acting. I quite enjoyed it; I finished the first season in a day lol. I'm currently watching the second season and probably will finish the show.

Some other things I've been loving

I had been listening to Fine Line by Harry Styles non-stop, the album was so good. My personal favourites are Fine Line, Falling, Cherry, Adore You, Watermelon Sugar and Treat People With Kindness. Fine Line and Falling are my sad 'sendu time' songs, both of them make me emotional every single time I listen to it. DEMO131 by B.I was also in my January playlist. I've been a fan of iKON since 2016 and he is my ultimate bias. I've missed him for months I heard nothing from him and I was so happy when that demo was posted on his Soundcloud. It was raw, emotional, it was just him talking to the fans and I really appreciate it.

Some other life updates in January

  • I sat for my first-semester final exam! Since I took my foundation in UMS, I was much more mentally prepared for my exam. I studied and revised the same as I did during my foundation, had a controlled amount of stress and can only hope for the best now. I know that I haven't done my best in revising and planning my time in the first semester and will try my best to change in the second semester, Insha Allah.
  • I turned 19! It felt surreal to even type that down. I can't believe that I'm already 19. I also can't believe that I'm just 19. My friends planned a surprise celebration during my birthday and it almost failed but I still had a lot of fun. That day was personally very tiring for me physically and mentally; I had a semi-identity crisis before I fell asleep the night before and a mini breakdown the morning I woke up. Alhamdulillaah for my friends and family who made the day much better for me.

  3. I love Victorious. One of the show that I enjoy watching from Nickelodeon apart from Zoey 101, iCarly and All That.
I'm a huge fan of stand up comedy, some of favourite acts is Kevin Hart, Ken Jeong and Ariana's ex, Pete Davidson. He's so savage and funny!
Fine Line is one amazing album. Probably the only best album out of all 1D members ever put out. hehe
Aww Happy Belated 19th Birthday. I know I'm too little late for that but still, it's fun to be 19. Can't believe my age gap with you this year hahaha
