Movie Reviews: What If, Cocktail, You Are the Apple of my Eye & Very Good Girls.

5.15.2016

Hello. I'm back with 4 short movie reviews today. And yes, I watched all 4 in a day. I was too tired of seeing another F = ma hence the movies.

You Are The Apple of My Eye

A group of close friends who attend a private school all have a debilitating crush on the sunny star pupil, Shen Jiayi. The only member of the group who claims not to is Ke Jingteng, but he ends up loving her as well. //★★★★★
Review: The thing that I loved the most about this movie was the characters' development. This movie follows the character from their teen years with silly puppy love until their adult years. It was heartwarming to see the characters grow mature, especially the main hero. Another thing that I loved was, of course, the love plotline. Although it didn't quite turn to be what I expected and hoped, I still found the ending nice. If you loved First Love, you will totally love this.

Very Good Girls

Two New York City girls make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school. When they both fall for the same street artist, the friends find their connection tested for the first time. // ★★★
Review: I had a higher expectation for this movie because Dakota Fanning starred in the movie and her works had always been good. Her acting was good too in this movie but the movie didn't achieve my expectation. This movie was slow and the ending feels rushed. The movie felt almost flat for me and didn't really affect my emotions as much as I wanted it to be. However, overall, this movie was still not bad. I had seen worse. This movie is adult-themed (didn't realize this before I watched) so I don't really recommend you watching this with kids.

Cocktail

Meera, your basic good girl became best friend with Veronica, your basic party girl after Veronica helped Meera when she got tricked. Then came Gautam, a man who loved his freedom and never really thought of getting married or falling in love. This is a story of a love triangle between a guy and two girls, who are best friends but the complete opposite of one another. //★★★★
Review: This movie was the second best among the four movies I watched after You Are the Apple of My Eye. Again, I loved the character development. I loved how the characters changed for worse and for better after meeting each other. I adore their friendship, and the topics this movie tried to cover. The ending was nice too but could be improvised. Nonetheless, this movie is a great movie.

What If

Wallace, who is burned out from a string of failed relationships, forms an instant bond with Chantry, who lives with her longtime boyfriend. Together, they puzzle out what it means if your best friend is also the love of your life. // ★★★
Review: To be honest, I only watched this movie because Daniel Radcliffe is in it and the movie title. The title intrigued me for a lot of reasons but they're not worth mentioning here. This movie was okay. I didn't love it so very much but I didn't hate it. The chemistry between the main characters was quite good. I don't have much to say about this movie. My heart broke when it supposed to break, I smiled and laughed when I supposed to so I guess it wasn't a bad movie.
